Samobor is situated in the northwest part of Croatia close to the Slovenian border (5 km) and near Croatia's capital city, Zagreb (20 km).

It is a thirty minute drive from the Zagreb airport and Zagreb train and bus terminals. Samobor has a mild climate with warm summers, fresh winters and optimal annual precipitation (approx. 800 mm). Dense, mainly broadleaf forests, hills and meadows surround Samobor, providing many walking, hiking and cycling routes. Samobor lies beneath the Nature park Žumberak-Samoborsko hills. In the greenery above the city centre the ruins of the once mighty medieval Samobor city are still present. Samobor is an ancient place with remains from the stone and bronze age. King Bela IV issued a charter in 1242 proclaiming Samobor a "free royal city".

Besides extraordinary scenery and a long history, Samobor is well known for its gastronomy. Amongst many places we recommend the tavern "Gabreku 1929" a tradition over 80 years. As well, you will want to try our famous custard pastries, kremsnita, that you can enjoy at the Main square Hotel "Livadić".

Near Samobor there is an aquatic heaven Terme Čatež (17 km), with more than 2300 m2 of inner and 10 000 m² outer thermal water surfaces. Besides swimming you can enjoy numerous wellness treatments such as massages, baths and saunas. The old city of Mokrice (7 km) is an excellent preserved renaissance castle from 16th century, with origins from Roman times. Today, the castle serves as a 5 star hotel with an 18 hole golf course surrounding it.

Among an abundance of other Samobor region attractions, we recommend the Plešivica wine route with over 30 wineries, Bio – park "Divlje vode" and excursion site "Žumberačko eko selo".
